EFCC READY TO COMMENCE FRESH TRIAL OF EX GOVERNOR ORJI KALU
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) has vowed to relaunch the retrial of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu at the lower court following the nullification of the later’s conviction by the apex court.
In a swift response to the verdict delivered Thursday by Justice Amina Augie led seven man panel, the anti graft agency, says it is prepared to go over the hurdle again.
A statement by the head of Media and publicity of the commission, Dele Oyewale describes the judgment as”quite unfortunate”.
“It is a technical ambush against the trial of the former governor, the commission is prepared for a fresh and immediate trial of the case because its evidences against Kalu and others are overwhelming.”
The statement further reiterates that “the corruption charges against Kalu subsist because the supreme Court did not acquit him of them.”
It reads in part,” The entire prosecutional machinery of EFCC would be launched in a fresh trial where justice is bound to be served in due course.”
