COVID 19 :LAGOS STATE TO REACH PEAK BY AUGUST
There are indicators that Lagos state is likely to attain its peak by the month of July or August 2020 in covid-19 cases.
The state is expected to record about 90,000 – 120,000 cases by August, this is according to the health commissioner in the state, Prof. Akin Abayomi.
At a press conference on Friday in Lagos, Abayomi said the state was yet to reach its peak.
According to him, the reason there is increase in the number of cases recorded lately is as a result of the decentralisation of sample collection centres to 20 LGA’s.
He said the government is working hard to ensure large numbers of people are reached in order to flatten the curve of the spread.
He also announced that Alimosho, Oshodi and Isolo are now recording more cases from the tests carried out.
Prof. Abayomi also disclosed that results of 80 persons at the state House Marina returned with 10 of them positive. The 10 have been moved into isolation centres.
He said the governor and his family were also tested.
He also stated that 97% of all the cases at the centres were mild and moderate, while only 3% were severe. He added that mortality rates in covid-19 cases have been more in males with pre existing ailments like diabetes, hypertension, etc and are also prone to die of COVID-19.
