BREAKING: TRIBUNAL DISMISSES OTTI’S PETITION; VALIDATES IKPEAZU’S ELECTION
Election petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia has dismissed the petition filed by Alex Otti of APGA for lacking in merit.
The tribunal held that the petitioner failed to prove his allegation of over voting and non compliance with electoral act in the conduct of the election.
In a unanimous judgment by the panel led by Lekan Ogumonye, the tribunal held that the petitioner failed to prove his allegation of electoral irregularities and mal practice in every polling unit in the said election, “polling unit by polling unit and ward by ward,” in the 15 LGAs affected.
The tribunal deduced that the application was unmeritorious.
In a reaction shortly after the judgment, Counsel to the 2nd respondent, Chief Paul Analaba (SAN) appreciated the Tribunal for delivering “unbiased and sound judgement.”
Also State party chairman of PDP, Chief Johnson Onuigbo and transition chairman of Ana North LGA, Barr. Charles Eseonu hailed the judgment and enjoined the opposition to join hands with the governor in governance.
Dr. Alex Otti of APGA had approached the tribunal to challenge the declaration of Ikpeazu as winner of the March 9,2019 governorship election in the state by INEC having been awarded third position in the said election.
APC’s Uche Ogah came second in that election.
