PROTEST ROCKS ABA OVER KILLED ” OKADA RIDER”; IKPEAZU VISITS FAMILY OF VICTIM, CONFIRMS ARREST OF KILLER SOLDIER
Angry Youths on Thursday protested the alleged killing of an okada rider in Aba by a soldier.
The motor cycle rider was said to have refused giving the soldiers the sum of 100 naira when flagged down at a check point which led to the soldier tracing him to his home and shooting him dead.
The demonstration held around Opobo junction, Azuka extension area of Ogbo hill Aba earlier today.
It was learnt that trouble started when the youths of Obingwa alleged that soldiers were telling or giving false information that the soldier who allegedly shot Chimaobi Nwaogu of Umuokere Ngwa was a cultist in military uniform.
However, calm has returned to the affected areas, as not less than 9 police pickup vans, 1 army pickup van and a police APC are all stationed within the area.
The tree branches which the youths used to block the Umuola road are still on the road, as the army stationed at Emelogu junction still continues with its daily activities.
Meanwhile the governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has visited the family of the victim and also confirmed the arrest of the very soldier Corporal Ajayi that committed the dastardly act.
The deceased is survived by his wife and two infants (boys).
The governor also pledged to shoulder the responsibility of catering for the young family.
