COMMUNITY POLICING MOST EFFECTIVE IN CRIME FIGHTING – CP
Chinwe Ugele, Umuahia.
A total of 78 crime suspects have been arrested and paraded by the Abia state police command within the last three weeks.
Out of this number, 21 of them were arrested as a result of kidnap related matters, while 8 were involved in armed robbery and kidnapping, there were 25 persons being held for cult related cases.
22 of these cases are currently before the courts.
The commissioner of police in the state, Eneh Okon while briefing newsmen of the command’s activities covering the period under review, said they recorded such huge success due to the effective collaboration with the various stakeholders in the localities.
He said “community policing is paying off” as they have received intelligence reports from members of the communities at different times leading to the arrest of hoodlums disturbing the peace of the people.
He said the command will continue to use this positive and useful measure to ensure that crime is reduced to the barest minimum.
The C.P.also explained that the reason cases of child trafficking declined is as a result of the increased vigour put into the chase of all illegal outfits functioning as child care centres.
He said they were able to secure the list of all registered homes from the state government, which helped them clamp down every unregistered home, saying the business has ceased to exist in the state.
There were several firearms recovered in the course of the arrests and raids.
