CHURCH’S PROCLAMATION OF WORD OF GOD RESPONSIBLE FOR GROWTH – PRESIDENT.
Chinwe Ugele, Umuahia.
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints, says, the church had in the past taken up the construction of roads in some parts of Abia state, provided water and health care services to communities as part of their humanitarian duties.
They said the church is continuing to reach out to communities to provide basic amenities to them.
Recently at a press conference to explain the reason for the new Umuahia South stake, Nigera, Elder Samuel Ekpolo said the church has a mission to proclaim the word of God, perfect the saints, redeem the dead, embark on empowerment and engage in community services.
He said “once we identify areas of need, no matter the nature or location, we embark on such project to benefit the people.”
The church on Sunday the 12th May, inaugurated a new Stake in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia state two years after Umuahia Stake Nigeria moved into its permanent site.
The unprecedented growth of the Mormons in Umuahia saw the stake having over 4,000 members, a figure higher than the stipulated number of 1,900 for each stake.
The Umuahia South Stake Nigeria was created to reduce the population of the Umuahia stake, according to the president of Umuahia Stake Nigeria, Samuel E. Ekpolo.
“Membership has exceeded a Stake of Zion that should have 1900 members,” he said.
President of Umuahia Stake further said, “The tent is large, and once it is large, we will continue to create more stakes, this church belongs to no man but to Jesus Christ, hence it is named after Him.”
Funding of the church all over the world is done from a common treasury which caters for all the needs of the various stakes, wards and branches.
