The central Bank of Nigeria has denied reports that there were stolen or missing funds in the apex bank.
There were some online reports earlier Sunday containing an audio recording purportedly of the CBN governor, Emiefele complaining of some missing 500 billion naira and how to cover up the loss.
The management of CBN in a press statement signed by the director of corporate Communications, Isaac Okoroafor came out clearly to debunk the reports and even provide explanations as to how funds were managed.
The statement described the purported audio as “selective recordings”.
It also appealed to the public to disregard the said report as it had no truth, adding that a the CBN governor would never soil his hands with public funds.
The medium which used the audio as report was also accused of bias to failing to reach out to the apex bank for clarification or reaction before publishing.
