The All Progressives Grand Alliance in Abia state has called for the immediate removal of some electoral officers in Abia state who showed signs of compromise in the last presidential and national Assembly elections.
The state party chairman, Rev. Austin Ehiemere while addressing a press conference in Umuahia on Friday said it was obvious that most of the INEC officials colludes with the ruling party in the state, the PDP to manipulate result figures.
He also questioned the rationale behind the cancellation of the Abia south senatorial election by the collation officer when according to him, the results had been collated from the polling units.
He alleged that the PDP’s candidate for Aba North and South federal constituency, Chief Uzor Azubuike through his petition to the said officer masterminded the refusal of the INEC official to declared the winner of the constituency.
According to Rev. Ehiemere, there should also be prompt prosecution of those staff of the commission who joined politicians to subvert the will of the electorate.
The chairman alleged that the officials are also in the pay roll of the ruling PDP and so did everything to see that areas where they considered strongholds were denied opportunity to vote through delay in arrival of materials and removal of original result sheets.
“We are afraid that if certain decisive and far reaching measures are not taken by INEC in Abia to correct obvious abnormalities in the INEC list of officials before the conduct of the forth coming governorship election, the commission might be preparing the ground for chaos and violence in the state, ” he said.
Ehiemere said in all these, the Resident Electoral Commission failed to act as he looked away his staff committed electoral malpractice in the state.
