WE DO NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEM WITH ABIA NORTH SENATORIAL ELECTION – INEC.
Chinwe Ugele, Umuahia.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has said that there is no problem with the results it declared for the Abia North senatorial election which held last Saturday.
The commission had declared candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Orji Uzor Kalu winner of the election having polled a total of 31,201 votes to defeat the incumbent senator Mao Ohuabunwa of the People’s Democratic Party who had a total of 20,801 votes.
Since the declaration of the result, the PDP candidate has raised concerns over what he described as non compliance with INEC regulations and guidelines.
Senator Ohuabunwa claimed that the number with which Kalu defeated him was less than the number cancelled in the election put at 38,526.
He insists that in such a case no return should have been made by the INEC.
However in a telephone chat with Mr. Bamidele Oyetunji in charge of publicity, INEC Abia, the commission has no problem with the polls in that area.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ohuabunwa has vowed to challenge the return of Chief Kalu at the tribunals.
