INEC SAYS PVC NOT RECOGNIZED BY CARD READER WILL NOT BE VOTED WITH.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has warned that any permanent voter’s card rejected by the smart card readers will not be allowed to be used for the elections.
The chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu who announced this while briefing newsmen in Abuja on Thursday on the level of preparedness of the commission for the Saturday’s rescheduled polls, said, the commission had operated under the policy that no citizen can vote without the PVC issued by the commission and read by the smart card reader.
Recall that there were challenges with the smart card readers in 2015, when it failed on several occasions to identify fingerprints of voters across the nation.
The complaints and outcry at the time made the INEC officials to resort to the use of manual register and incidence forms to identify voters and allow them vote.
He said it was necessary that the citizens know the number of permanent voter’s cards that had been collected having announced the total number of registered voters in Nigeria.
According to him, as at the last date of PVC collection which was the 11th of February, 2019, a total number of 72, 775, 585 PVC’s where collected out of the 84, 000,484 registered
