The Legionnaires represented by their state chairman in an interview said the welfare of the families of some fallen heroes and their retired members has not received adequate attention from the Nigerian government.
Members of the Nigerian Legion in Abia state have decried alleged neglect of their families by the government.
The chairman of the state Legion, Ambrose Nnabugwu, while recalling the efforts of the fallen heroes during the 2019 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration in Umuahia, noted that the peace the state is enjoying was made possible by their sacrifices.
He also called on politicians to avoid doing anything that will jeopardize the peace in the state as elections approach, saying they should play the game by the rules.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko-Chukwu commended the Nigerian military for its sacrifices in securing the territorial integrity of the country.
He regretted that a lot of soldiers have lost their lives in the fight against insurgency and hoped that the efforts of the fallen heroes will not be in vain.
There was the traditional wreath laying by some personalities at ceremony .
