APC FLAGS OFF CAMPAIGNS IN ABIA WITH AN IMPRESSIVE TURN OUT OF SUPPORTERS.
Chinwe Ugele, Umuahia.
“Emenike is fighting for PDP, we disown him today, we disown him tomorrow and we disown him forever.”
It was an event that will mark the beginning of vote hunt for the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Abia state where stakeholders from the national and state secretariats attended.
The large turnout of supporters of the party at the Umuahia Township stadium, venue for the rally was a clear indication that Abia may be on the path of navigation to the unusual.
Two former governors of the state, Chief Ogbonnaya Onu and Orji Uzor Kalu are joining forces with other stakeholders to make a change in Abia polity.
The party faithful in the state proved naysayers wrong by organizing and successfully hosting their campaign rally for the 2019 elections.
The Lockdown ;
Commuters who used Ikot-Ekpene road, Finbarrs road, Azikiwe road, School road, Macaulay street as well as Aba road in Umuahia had it rough from as early as 8am till the time the event lasted following the barricades created by the security agents. Lots of people resorted to trekking rather than get stuck in the traffic.
It will not be the first time, but maybe the first time an opposition party in the state will have such boldness to cause even the party in power in the state some discomfort.
Nwankpa welcomes guests.
The state chairman of the party, Chief Donatus Nwankpa, said Abia state has chosen credible candidates and will run an issue based campaigns . He recalled that the fortunes of Abia APC has changed since 2015 for the better.
He also stated that the “emergence of Ogah has changed the political equation of the state,” and said the party in the state is not resting on its oars until the elections are over.
Oshiomole denounces Emenike.
It was not unusual that the National chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomole known for his verbosity will cast aspersions on Ikechi Emenike who is also laying claims to the party’s gubernatorial flag bearer. According to Oshiomole, Emenike is secretly working for the incumbent in the state, while still dragging the party to court “to keep the party busy, God will keep him busy.”
He said a genuine APC member will not go to court to challenge the candidature of Uche Ogah, saying that only agents of the PDP are doing so to create distraction.
He takes Ikpeazu to the cleaners:
“Ikpeazu how do you sleep when your workers are not being paid?”
The National Chairman obviously came prepared as he announced the number of times governor Okezie Ikpeazu received bailout funds and Paris refund to clear issues of salaries, yet still has workers lamenting for nonpayment of salaries.
“PDP governor in Abia state collected bailout fund to bail out himself and family…….he collected the Paris funds twice and ended up in Paris himself,” he said.
He continued by asking the supporters, “Are you going to vote for someone who has substituted public welfare for his welfare?” In response , he got a thunderous “Nooooo.”
Canvassing for votes for his party:
“Switch off the PDP light in Abia State”
While presenting the governorship candidate of his party in the state Mr. Uche Ogah with a flag of the party, Oshiomole described him as a product of self effort who believes in industry, productivity and creativity.
He said Ogah is hungry to turn around the fortunes of the state and will actualize it using their platform having failed to do so in the PDP.
“because of the failure of Ikpeazu, we have come with the message that Uche will deliver and restore the dignity of labour.”
He further solicited for votes for all their candidates from President Muhammadu Buhari to the House of Assembly members. He said the party did not need to negotiate for 25% for president Buhari when he can secure 80% from the state.
Some decamped persons from other parties were also received into the fold.
OUK with the Mic
“I was the last elected governor of Abia state.”
“T.A. Orji wasted 8 years.”
“Ikpeazu has not built any new roads in Umuahia since he became governor, he cannot even stay in Umuahia, the only thing he knows is staying in his village.”
Orji praised President Buhari for fixing the federal roads in the state which according to him were abandoned by the PDP.
He promised to return 70% votes for the President and urged people to vote for all their candidates and afterwards expect rewards from Mr. President who he said will personally visit Abia for appreciation.
“Within my first two years in office, I will cancel every wrong of the PDP, I will show the people that there is money in government.”
Elated by the massive turn out of supporters on the crucial campaign rally, Mr. Sampson Uche Ogah declared that it will take him only few years in office to change the Abia narrative.
He assured all that he will not disappoint them, since they have agreed to move into APC with him.
“There is nothing that can stop a man whose time has come,” he said.
He also promised them that their votes will be protected, adding that “We have found the solition that will change the narrative of Abia state.

President Buhari’s absence
It was a successful outing for the APC in Abia state judging by what it used to be in 2015.
Not many know whether the presence of Mr. President would have added value or colour to the gathering as it was a politically charged atmosphere.
