INEC DENIES NEW REGISTRATION EXERCISE FOR VOTERS
Chinwe Ugele, Umuahia.
The Independent National Electoral Commission,( INEC), has dispelled rumours that it will soon commence another round of registration of voters for the permanent voters cards.
There had been a statement circulating recently that the commission had decided to give a new opportunity to those yet to register to utilize the new date for registration which would start from the 2nd of December to the 10th.
But the commission has come out to debunk such rumours and even advised citizens to discountenance such.
INEC on its verified twitter handle @inecnigeria, tweeted, “Information reaching the commission that some persons have been circulating messages online that “INEC HAS GIVING ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO REGISTER FOR YOUR PVC, STARTING ON THE 2ND TO THE 10TH DECEMBER 2018”, the report is untrue and we advise the public to ignore it.”
The commission had concluded continuous voter registration exercise on the 31st of august 2018 after it extended the exercise by two weeks from the original date of August 17 to be able to accommodate more interested voters.
At the end of the registration exercise in August, the total number of newly registered voters came to 14,551,482. This brings the number of registered voters in Nigeria to 84,271,832.
