CORONA VIRUS : CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF UMUAHIA SUSPENDS MOTHER’S DAY CELEBRATIONS INDEFINITELY AMIDST OTHER PROGRAMMES

The Catholic diocese of Umuahia has put a hold on the proposed celebration for mother’s day scheduled for the 29th of March following the new government guidelines on social distancing and others.
In a new press statement by His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Lucius Ugorji, the famous mother’s day activities which usually attracts people is to be suspended till further notice.
Women in the diocese has been preparing for this day being an annual event.
Similarly, the Bishop also has directed that the Fridays stations of the cross henceforth will be conducted in private.
For the Good Friday mass, there will not be the washing of feet, nor veneration of the cross.
Another event that has been remodelled is the cathedraticum where hundreds of worshippers usually came from different parishes to the cathedral, it will now be done in deaneries with not more than three persons from each parish.
Only priests are to celebrate the chrism mass at the cathedral.
There will also not be the usual procession on palm sunday but there will be the blessing of the palm.
In order to comply with the directive of the government on the number of persons in a church at the same time, parish priests are expected to conduct as many masses on Sundays as possible.
