NIGERIA DECIDES: INEC TO CONDUCT ELECTIONS IN AREA WHERE FIRE DESTROYED ELECTION MATERIALS IN AKWA IBOM.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that elections will still hold in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state where fire razed down the INEC office there.
The fire which is yet to be ascertained the root cause, succeeded in damaging 198 card readers and some other non sensitive materials meant for the governorship and house of Assembly elections on Saturday.
The ballot papers and the result sheets according to INEC where fortunately not affected by the fire.
A statement issued by INEC headquarters Abuja, has however assured that elections will still hold as planned in the area.
The statement stated that all the damaged card readers had been replaced and reconfigured while another voter’s register has also been provided.
It further informed that report of the fire incident has been lodged with the security agencies to ascertain the reason for the fire.
Meanwhile, the commission has also rescheduled election for Nassarawo- Binyeri state constituency in Adamawa state following the death of the candidate for APC who is also the incumbent house member.
Election into this state constituency will now hold on the 23rd of March, 2019.
