COURT SACKS DUKE, DECLARES GANA SDP PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE FOR THE 2019 ELECTIONS.
An Abuja High Court has pronounced Professor Jerry Gana former minister of Information the winner if the Presidential primary election of the Social Democratic party.
Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf on Friday in his ruling nullified the candidacy of former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, as the party’s Presidential standard bearer.
Professor Gana had in an application to the court sought to be declared the winner of the primary, in line with zoning formula of the party.
He approached the court soon after the SDP leadership announced that Mr Duke won the primary it held on October 6.
According to the party, the former governor polled 812 votes to defeat the former minister who scored 611 votes.
Parties have less than two months to canvass for votes from the electorate before elections.
SDP was also not listed among the parties that will participate in the Presidential debate organized by BON and NEDG.
