South east governors never challenged the choice of Obi as running mate to Atiku – Ikpeazu

Abia state governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has debunked the rumours trending in the media that the South East Governors and political leaders leaders in the zone are opposed to the nomination of Mr Peter Obi as vice presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party.

Governor  Ikpeazu who took advantage of Mr. Obi’s visit to Abia state, to clarify the stance of the governors, said ” at no time did the leadership of Ndigbo say they were not happy with Obi’s  nomination”.

He described  Mr.  Obi as a worthy son of Igbo land, worthy Nigerian, a gift to “Ndigbo” and one of the best Igbo land can offer.

In his words,  “It will be fool hardy for anybody not to support  him ” (Obi).

Dr Ikpeazu explained that what the South East leaders the contention of the south East leaders was derived from not consulting the “Ime Obi Ohaneze before making his choice public.

He however described the choice of Obingwa as apt.

In his contribution, the Chairman, South East Caucus in the national assembly, Senator Enyi Abaribe said the entire National Assembly caucus was behind Mr. Peter Obi,  adding that at no time was there a problem with his nomination as vice presidential candidate.

He said the country needs men with integrity “whose yes will be yes and who Nigerians can queue behind to ensure that Nigeria recovers from despondency.”

Mr Obi who was obviously unperturbed by the insinuations assured that the South East will always stay united even at this time,  saying he already spoke with the three  PDP Governors in the zone as well as other Igbo leaders in the National Assembly since the insinuations began spreading.

Mr.  Obi said he is more concerned about how to rebuild the South East in particular and Nigeria in general.
